Roundup for Week 45 of 2022

Downloaded my twitter archives this week. Just in case. One of my accounts goes back to 2009, and I got hella nostalgic looking at old tweets and DMs. We *really* referred to smut fic as 'lemons', which is weird to think now.

These posts are my weekly periodic 'round up' of the things I've been up to this week lately.

Writing

Eeek, I have not done the thing. There's just too much else going on on the internet right now. I mean, okay, I have an outline for a thing.

Just no proper words yet.

Watching

Interview with the Vampire

Season 1 is over? I am not fucking happy. I need more, right fucking now.

This show. THIS FUCKING SHOW. I love this fucking show, so much. And I was prepared not to, because of the changes to the timeline and Claudia's age, but it's so fucking good. They took something I already found to be damn near perfect and they made it SO MUCH BETTER.

The Crown

Yeah I devoured Season 5 over three nights, as you do.

Social Media

Downloaded my twitter archives this week. Just in case. One of my accounts goes back to 2009, and I got hella nostalgic looking at old tweets and DMs. We really referred to smut fic as 'lemons', which is weird to think now.

And twitter was a much simpler place than it is now. Just quietly, I'm not sure I'll be remotely upset if it goes up in flames, because it really hasn't been a nice place for a very very long time.

#TwitterMigration

Yeah Mastodon is going off. Instances are popping up all over the place as 'the normals' descend, and brand-new-to-Mastodon admins (like the one from that journo instance) are having the training wheels yanked from beneath them 🤣

Fandom instances are popping up, too. Retro.pizza looks cool, blorbo.social is in testing phase now, and fandom.community is brand new and open for business!

Important Blue Internet Checkmarks

Tumblr is taking the piss out of Elon with their new offering: two verified badges for the price of one!

DeviantArt Joins Twitter In Self-Destruct Mode

DeviantArt felt left out so they decided to opt all their users into having their art used to make AI art without any consultation.

They got reamed on twitter, so, just today, they tweeted a retraction, claiming they would set all deviations to 'opt-in' instead of 'opt-out' of being included in AI datasets, but something tells me the trust is gone. I mean, what in the flaming hell is an art site doing encouraging AI art in the first place? Guys. Read the fucking room.

Website Updates

Couple new fic recs up on the Recs page and some new links.
