Download Your Twitter Archive

If you haven't already. Twitter is imploding, there's now two manbabies on board, and anyone who is determined to stay because everywhere else sucks is delusional.

The format the archive comes down in is not terribly user friendly. Okay, so maybe it is to the majority of users on twitter, but not me. Links are all still in t.co format, and when twitter dies, they're going to be useless. Images are all reduced versions of the originals, and if you've got art you're trying to back up in case of disaster, this is less than ideal.

So there's a tool to convert this archive to something more usable, and another tool to get all your original images as well.

Converting Your Twitter Archive to Markdown explains it better than I can, and when you're ready to grab the tools and do the thing, you can find them here: twitter archive parser.

The only problem I had with it was the command: python parser.py It needs python3 installed, which I have, but because I also have python installed, it kept trying to use that and came back with an error.

So I added a 3 python3 parser.py and boom, sorted.

Who remembers this?

The news went out on Friday NZ time that twitter employees were leaving in droves and it was a matter of days, if not hours, before the site would die a flamey death.

While I'm not expecting a big dramatic crash, it's definitely time if you have not done so, to board your lifeboat and make sure you know where your friends are.

And now the orange dude is back, well. Abandon fucking ship.
