Roundup for Week 48 of 2022
I'm doing A Lot of reading these last couple weeks. I've gotten into the habit of consuming 2-6k words of an evening before bed and it's actually quite inspiring. It makes me want to write.
These posts are my weekly periodic 'round up' of the things I've been up to this week lately.
Reading
I'm doing A Lot of reading these last couple weeks. I've gotten into the habit of consuming 2-6k words of an evening before bed and it's actually quite inspiring. It makes me want to write.
This week's faves:
Colorado by nigeltde
i'm what your hands were made for by hurricane_jane
And Liquor Will Always Be Cheaper Than Therapy by formalizing
Acid by applecrumbledore - I stayed up till after 3am reading this. So so good and also πΆοΈ
And I'm reading a lot by Venhedish lately...
Writing
I wrote 2.7k over three days, that's almost unheard of for me lately. It involves wincest (big surprise) and a giant roach thanks to the new Monster Generator.
Watching
Wednesday!

I was very good and limited myself to two episodes a night so I could savour it and make it last but it was still over far too quickly.
Website
The new site is up and I'm just tweaking things now. I've also been reworking this here Dreamwidth journal to match. It's a work in progress π€£
Added the Bro Bone Bang to the Links page.
Thanks to a lot of help from my fellow fandom coders there's now a Supernatural Monster Generator on the site.
Social Media
Hive
Certain parts of fandom are flocking to Hive but it has no moderators and it hates the internet!
Also this: β οΈ Warning: do not use Hive Social πππ
The issues we reported allow any attacker toΒ access all data, including private posts, private messages, shared media and even deleted direct messages. This also includes private email addresses and phone numbers entered during login.
It's interesting the different standards social networks are held to depending on whether they're a commercial interest or community run. Commercial networks seem to get a pass based on slick shiny apps, don't get questioned on privacy or safety, while community run networks are vilified for misunderstood policies and functions.
The Great Twitter Migration of 2022 - A Directory
Speaking of Hive, so pleased to not see it featured on the form for this opt-in fandom directory:
For everyone who wants to leave a forwarding address before that pathetic, overconfident agent of chaos burns the place to the ground.
I don't know the person behind it, but while filling in the form I put my trust in the claim that Fandom Olds were the target audience, and there are some people already on the list who I do trust.
Here's the link to add yourself to the directory and here's the link to the directory itself. A reminder not to put anything into a google form that you're not cool with putting on the internet or out in public.
Fandom Wank
Some destiel shippers have finally had enough and have gone public over the harassment they've suffered by a group who put out how-to guides on reporting printed fic. Link to commentary on Mastodon by Morgan Dawn
While my own sensibilities veer away from anything that could be remotely tied to the commercialisation of fanfic (I'm assured this was never the intent in this situation), this kind of organised harassment by fellow fans is quite horrifying.
